Noelle's nanny job (London)

After a lesson one evening, a young French student came to the pub with the exciting news that she’d found a job in Beijing as a nanny for a Western couple—diplomat husband and lawyer wife.  I asked, “Is that Valentino and Jeanne-Marie?”  Noelle nearly fell off her chair.  What a small world.

  4. This is how slow my brain works. My thanking M D Tariq for his/her compliment (saying "well-written article, thanks for suggestion" as a comment under my blog, only just deleted by me 7 years later): I've just realised this person had appended his/her link for nanny jobs to that comment, thus using my blog space as advertising for his/her link.

I recently spotted a similar thing in a YouTube Chinese video clip comments area. I sometimes scroll through the comments (in Chinese) in case they are useful for teaching as they're real life colloquial usage of the language. Someone brazenly added a supposed comment (a non-sequitur at that, too), appending his/her link. I was tempted to reply to that person, to tell them they were being discourteous, but saw that someone else had already done it.

Besides, I'm averse to show-downs and scenes, even if just verbal, which only serve to make me even angrier than before, so I decided to bite my tongue, not reprimand the cheeky opportunistic person, and just walk away.
