I’d invited some people round for dinner one Saturday evening back in 1980.
They were all university students, like me, which means that we talked into the early hours and everyone just crashed out on my living room floor. After breakfast the next day, brothers Adam and Ben, who lived in Oxford at the time, said they had to go home, as they had to feed the cat. I asked why they couldn’t have just left enough food for a few days, so that they wouldn’t have to dash home if they were having fun out socialising. They said it doesn’t work like that, as the cat would eat the whole lot in one go at the outset.
A fellow Longevitology energy adjuster gave me some liqueur chocolate last Saturday, about a dozen of them. Now I know what Adam and Ben meant about the cat… (Liqueur chocolate at 9am!)

PS: An old friend Valerio, who has two cats, has just corrected me, saying cats will only eat as much as they need, and that it's dogs who do that. Actually, it sounds right, as cats are the ones who have more common sense and discipline, unlike dogs, who tend to be a bit silly.
